ABOUT THE PROJECT

Ancient Tides is a project made in collaboration with Tres Museos. Specially for their exposition "We Were Sea", which consist of sea fossils recovered in the region. The game is available in English and Spanish.

In the game you´ll have to explore 3 small underwater areas. The goal is to discover how the fossiles came back to live. For that you have to scan them for your fossilpedia and even ride them to swim through strong currents.

WHAT I DID

For this project I was the main designer, working on the mechanics and the level design. I also wrote all the translations and text for the player guidance. I did as well the UI for player guidance.

TEAM

Programmers: Pyush Chamoli.

DESIGN KEY POINTS

Serious game for a client

The challenge of this project was translating the needs of the client into an interesting videogame. We were tasked with making a game about the "We were sea" exposition.

I started I analyzing the need of a museum, which was not only teaching but also attracting visitors. I based the concept of the game on that, creating a experience that gives the player a reason to visit the museum. We did this by first peaking the players interest about the fossils from the exposition and then giving them the chance to see them in real life.

Looking ahead

When developing this project I already knew what I wanted to do for my final project in my bachelor at DAE; a game that would end up being called "Voice of the Ocean". A game in which you could sing to change the world as a newborn mermaid.

So when the possibility of making a game in a similar setting came along, I took it. And I took advantage of this by prototyping as many ideas as I could, ideas that overlapped between both projects: Colorful underwater environment, underwater movement and exploring, underwater level design and more.
